It is great to see a new pub in the heart of West Norwood. Knowles opened late last year and is now seeking planning permission from Lambeth council to extend its late opening hours by one hour a night.
At the moment Knowles is open 2 pm to 11 pm Mondays to Thursdays, 12 noon to 12 midnight Friday & Saturday and 12 noon to 11 pm on Sundays. Next month they are hoping to open for lunch time and serve good coffee.
Most of the shops in Norwood Road have people living in the flats above. Knowles currently has permission from the council to open 9 am to 11 pm Sunday to Thursday and 9 am to 12 midnight Friday & Saturday.

Matt & Jemma
The Tulse Hill Hotel at 150 Norwood Road SE24 9AY is getting a new look under its new management. Jemma & Matt will be building on their experience from The Salthouse in Abbey Rd, north London to create a gastro pub for West Norwood. Look out for the opening before Christmas.
A great addition to the wide range of places to eat out in West Norwood – soon to be followed by Antic who have the go ahead to turn the shop site at 294 Norwood Road SE27 9AF into a restaurant & pub.
Alison of The Horns Tavern
The Horns Tavern , 40 Knights Hill SE27 0JD , the oldest pub in West Norwood, has just opened a beer garden. Alison, the landlady, is adding fruit smoothies to the menu so you can pop in after a session at the Leisure Centre! And for the summer there is a BBQ every weekend lunchtime.
Nick Willoughby, local West Norwood entrepreneur, chose a lovely sunny day the 4th May to open the The Great North Wood. Co-inciding with the West Norwood Feast market day this new pub & kitchen at 3 Knights Hill SE27 0HS (next to West Norwood Station) was packed with customers inside and in the beer garden. Nick has taken over the former Norwood Hotel and turned it into a family friendly pub. See facebook for more details: https://www.facebook.com/TheGreatNorthWoodWestNorwood
Nick Willoughby of West Norwood and two friends are set to take over The Norwood Hotel and re-open it as The Great North Wood pub and kitchen – a relaxed, family-friendly pub, serving delicious food and great beer. It will be light and airy during the day; a great place to enjoy the papers, a coffee or some lunch and in the evening it will be a cosy haven to have a well deserved drink and enjoy a delicious home cooked meal. When the sun decides to show itself the garden will open and the BBQ will fire up!
The refurbishment will begin mid- February and should re-open for the last weekend of March. Look out for the taster sessions!

294 – 298 Norwood Road
Plans for a new pub and restuarant in West Norwood have been submitted to Lambeth council by Antic who were originally trying to open Knowles of Norwood in Knights Hill. Their new site is 294-298 Norwood Road SE27 9AF which is currently the This,That Other Discount Store.
Antic plan to split the shop into two units- a pub and a restaurant . The current planning status is A1 – retail so planning permission is required to change the use to A4 for the pub and A3 for the restaurant.
Antic say “The pub will be family and dog friendly, feature local and national ales among other well chosen spirits and boast a fine kitchen and dining room area serving British food with an Antic twist. Please send letters of support for our application to convert the building into a pub and restaurant, adding new frontage and creating a garden at the rear, to firstname.lastname@example.org so we may present a file in support of our application to the council.”
Details of the plans are on Lambeth council web site by quoting 13/02818/FUL : http://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/online-applications/
