Cllr Pickard at the Tennis Club gates
Developers want to build 32 new homes on the Tennis Club site at the corner of Cheviot Road & Knights Hill SE27 0SR. Due to the lack of open space and sports facilities locally – Lambeth’s planning rules mean the tennis club must be retained as part of the new build.
More details of the management arrangements for the proposed new tennis club are now available on the council Planning database – quote ref 16/01650 at https://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/online-applications/ . 500-700 paying members are anticipated with courts open 10am to 9pm. A gym, squash courts & sports hall are also part of the plans.
Lambeth’s Planning Committee will meet on Tuesday 21st March 7pm at the Karibu Centre, Gresham Road SW9 7PH to make the final decision. THIS MEETING IS NOW POSTPONED.

Travellers arrived last night and are camped on the vacant site on Knights Hill at the corner with Chapel Road. The police and Cllr Sonia Winifred visited today. The traveller say they are staying for a few days over the bank holiday weekend.
The police will monitor the site over the weekend but there are “no aggravating factors’ requiring immediate action. They will also try to contact the owners of the land. It is believed the land is owned by a cash & carry business in Tooting.
If anyone has concerns please contact the local police on 101 (or 999 if an emergency). Should you need to contact Lambeth’s Noise team over the weekend phone 020 7926 5999.

Homes on Portobello estate, at the top of Knights Hill, are getting new windows as part of the council’s Lambeth Housing Standard improvements.
The original metal crittal windows were the latest thing in the late 1940s but are very out of date now and very draughty in winter.

The works are due to take place over 3 nights (10pm to 6am) to resurface the parts of Norwood Road and Knights Hill closest to Robson Road SE27. Plans for the Firestation
Now that our firestation has moved to brand new premises on Knights Hill developers have submitted plans for the site at 445 Norwood Road SE27 9DG
The proposal is to turn the firestation into 23 flats and a childrens nursery on the ground floor. The fire station built in 1914-15 is a Grade II listed and the building on Norwood Road together with many of its original features will be retained. A new 4-storey block at the back will have 11 flats. The plans have no off-street parking as the site is very close to bus routes and Tulse Hill station.
The mix of homes proposed is eleven 1-bedroom flats, ten 2-bedroom flats and two 3-bedroom flats. 8 of the new homes will be affordable.
