Thames Water is spending around £5m relining the Leigham Vale water main and surrounding works. As the mains are underneath our roads the roads have to be closed to traffic to access the pipes. Leigham Vale remains closed to through traffic till the end of July 2017.
The section of road from the Leigham Vale – Knollys Road roundabout to Leigham Court Road is now one way and closed to eastbound traffic for the next 4- 6 weeks. So all our east – west streets off Leigham Court Road are likely to have increased traffic , particularly Rosedene Avenue / Mt Nod Road and Canterbury Grove.

View of building site from the wooden bridge
35 new homes are under construction on the old warehouse site at 17-23 Canterbury Grove and due to be finished in May 2011.
Unfortunately in October, the road collapsed when a heavy crane was delivering large concrete slabs to the site. The water main below was damaged and the contractors had carry out repairs leaving a lot of mud and ice on the road and pavement during the bad weather. The developer was asked to keep the area gritted and as clean as possible. Now that the repairs have been completed, there should be less disruption to local residents but do telephone Considerate Construction on 0800 783 1423 if there are further problems.
Labour Candidate Jane Pickard on the litter strewn bridge
Labour campaigner Jane Pickard was shocked at the state of the foot bridge over the railway at Canterbury Grove. The bridge hasn’t been swept during the bad weather and so the litter has turned into a soggy mush. So this week Jane met with one of the West Norwood Street Inspectors who promised to get the walkway of the bridge cleared up and all the litter removed from under the bridge steps.
Jane says: “The footbridge is a litter blackspot, especially the area underneath the steps. As a resident of Thurlby Road, I do use the bridge and will be checking to make sure it doesn’t get this bad again.”
Network Rail are responsible for clearing the litter beside the track using litter picking teams specially trained to work close to trains. The Labour Action team has asked for a litter pick to be done soon – before spring when the weeds will growing all over the litter.
