Could you help struggling parents in Lambeth build better lives for their children ? At Home –Start volunteers befriend and visit local families for a few hours a week. The families need help for a variety of reasons eg a disabled child or postnatal depression.
Home-Start runs free comprehensive training schemes for potential volunteers. The aim is to support parents to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationship with their children and widen their links to the local community
Bolu Heather is the Volunteer Coordinator at the charity and says volunteers gain a huge amount from their working with Home –Start. For some volunteers the experience at Home-Start leads to new paid job opportunities.

489 -491 Norwood Road
KFC propose to move into the two storage premises at 489-491 Norwood Road SE27 9DJ and have submitted a planning application to the council. West Norwood has had a KFC for some years at 527 Norwood Road SE27 9DL which closed at the beginning of February. These new premises will be much bigger allowing for up to 30 customers to eat in the restaurant at any one time as well as serving takeaway hot food.
KFC have to get planning permission to change the premises from storage use to a restaurant & take away. As they are proposing to sell hot food after 11pm they will also need a Night Café licence. The council has a policy to prevent new hot takeaways opening premises within 400 metres of a school. As the nearest school, Elmgreen, is nearly 500 metres away , this policy does not apply in this case.
To see more details and to comment on the planning application go to the Lambeth Planning portal https://planning.lambeth.gov.uk/online-applications/ and use reference : 17/01574 . The closing date is 29th May.

If you are not keen on meetings but have things to say about the future of West Norwood – then take a look at this new web site and its interactive map.
https://westnorwoodandtulsehill.commonplace.is/ It’s easy to mark the places you like and the places you would like to see improved. The map covers the area from Tulse Hill one-way system along Norwood Road & Knights Hill to Chapel Road.
Cllr Meldrum at a workshop at Tulse Hill
Information input to the website will be part of a programme of public events, workshops and exhibitions during the spring and summer to discuss what people want for their community and neighbourhood. The council wants to end up with a new 2017 plan for future improvements and investment in West Norwood.
The last West Norwood master plan was in 2009 – we have seen many changes and improvements since then including new schools and the Health & Leisure Centre. ( Work should be starting very soon on the library –cinema in Nettlefold Hall and upgrading of the South London Theatre. )
